Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

A highlight of each Regional Conference is the opportunity to show our support for the four Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in Michigan.

In light of the safety concerns surrounding the transmission of COVID-19, we are adjusting the manner by which we raise funds for CMNH during RC22. Instead of the traditional raffle and silent auction, which require much personal and close interaction, we will be building upon the momentum of last year's wildly successful fundraiser and are excited to announce the RCMNH 22K Challenge. Our goal is to raise at least $22,000 for our four Michigan CMN Hospitals. Complete details will be available during Friday morning's opening session.

We are excited to introduce our 2022 Miracle Child, Charlie Lash!

On December 2, 2020, Kimberlie Wright rushed her seven-year-old daughter Charlie to Hurley’s Pediatric Emergency Department. Charlie was admitted, and within a few days, she developed a rash on her little finger that rapidly spread across her entire body. She couldn’t move her neck and her condition deteriorated rapidly. She was negative for COVID-19, but another swab showed antibodies. Apparently, Charlie was asymptomatic just before December and no one knew.

Hurley doctors diagnosed Charlie with MIS-C (multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children), which is a rare but serious complication associated with COVID-19. It was first identified in children’s hospitals in the United States and the United Kingdom in April, 2020. MIS-C is a condition where different parts of the child’s body become inflamed. The inflammation can limit blood flow, damaging the heart, kidneys, and other organs.

After nine long days at Hurley, Charlie was discharged. However, this was not the end of her journey. Life for the second grader was filled with doctors appointments. Both Kimberlie and Charlie’s dad, Joseph, are grateful to the medical team at Hurley as well as the Child Life Specialists who made such a difference. Today, this bright little girl is back to being the “light” in her world. She’s a whiz at math and enjoys arts and crafts again.

Without a doubt, Charlie is truly a miracle!
